Abstract
On several non-auditory clinical complaints, a case-control study was carried out between case group of 1,026 industrial workers exposed to high level noise (80~97dB(A))and control group of the same number.
A questionnaire on such clinical complaints as fatigue, weight loss, dizziness, headache, insomnia, palpitation, nausea & vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhea collected from the workers of both group were analyzed, and the results were as follows.
1. In general, overall prevalence rates of complaints on weight loss, dizziness, insomnia, nausea & vomiting and abdominal pain were higher very significantly in the case group than in the control group, but any of the prevalence of the compliant were not higher in the control group than in the case group significantly.
2. In case-control study, the prevalence of weight loss in both sex, those of dizziness and insomnia in female and, that of abdominal pain in female were significantly higher in the case group than in the control group. And those of weight loss, dizziness and insomnia in group of age younger than 40 years were higher than in group of age older than 40 years significantly.
3. In the case group, the prevalence of dizziness, nausea & vomiting and abdominal pain were higher in female than in male very significantly, and those of weight loss, dizziness, nausea & vomiting, abdominal pain were higher in younger than in older age group, Those of weight loss, dizziness, abdominal pain were higher in higher noise level group than lower level group.
4. The consequence was that the prevalence of compliants on weight loss, dizziness, insomnia, nausea & vomiting and abdominal pain seems to become exacerbated by high level noise, more sensitively in male than in female, an al soin younger than older workers.
